Event Description:
Teacher as cultural ambassador: A humanistic approach to teaching cultures in American schools
This presentation discusses the important role of a language teacher as a cultural ambassador and explores a humanistic approach to teaching and learning of Chinese culture in American schools. This approach will emphasize the education of a whole person by integrating: (1) cultural practices, products, and perspectives, (2) Chinese culture and American/world cultures, (3) traditional and modern Chinese culture, and (4) high and pop culture. The presenters will also discuss the importance of developing students’ intercultural competence during a time when prejudice and violence towards Asian (Chinese) Americans are rising.
中文教师作为文化大使：人文主义的文化教学理念与技巧
此演示商讨中文教师作为文化大使的重要性以及人文主义文化教学方法。人文主义文化教学就是在教学中以培养“完整人”为主，把文化知识，文化实践和文化意识相结合，把中华文化和美国和世界文化相结合，把传统文化和现代文化相结合，把高雅文化和通俗文化相结合。同时还讨论在当前对亚裔（华裔）的歧视和暴力上升期间培养学生跨文化能力的重要性。
